SCBR Week 6/ Day 2 Food/Exercise Journal

7:30 am – Coffee – First Signs of Hunger (4)

IMG_3681.JPG

The daylight savings time totally messed up both my sleep and wake-up last night and this morning. I needed some coffee to get going today. I had some Breakfast Blend with sugar and 2% milk. I probably should have had 2 or 3 of these!

9:30 am – AB + Chocolate Oats + Milk – First Signs of Feeling Full (6)

DSCN5103.JPG

I made one of my go-to oatmeal combos – Almond Butter/Chocolate Oats.

Pre-cooking:

  • 1/4 cup 1-minute quick cooking Quaker oats
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp flax
  • 1/2 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp sugar

Post-cooking:

  • 2 tbsp 2% milk, stirred in
  • 1 tbsp mini semi-sweet chocolate chips, on top
  • 1 tbsp sliced almonds, on top
  • 1/2 tbsp Barney Butter, on the side

I used 1 spoon to mix everything up and 1 to get the Barney Butter!

I also had some milk to drink with the oats. I’ve been keeping one of these mini-milks in the fridge at work so I have milk to add to my oats (without lugging another tupperware around with me and dealing with potential leaks), but these guys only last a week, and this one was expiring today. I drank it so I didn’t waste it.

I also had some water to kick off the day.

12:45 am – Lunch in the Park – First Signs of Feeling Full (6)

DSCN5108.JPG

I went with 2 co-workers to pick up lunch from a local health-food-store that has ready made food – even hot stuff! We picked up some food and other groceries and hit up a local park to enjoy the weather and eat outside.

DSCN5106.JPG

They had a lovely-looking perch hot and ready to eat – it was breaded in what I think was cornmeal and baked (not fried!). I’d never had perch and would like to eat fish more often, so I gave it a go. The price was right at $3.99 and the nice lady who always works the food area even gave me and a co-worker (who got the same thing) some roasted veggies for free!

I ate about 3/4 of the fish and about the same of the veggies. It was a lot of food! I was originally planning on getting more spicy chicken salad so I had some bread in tow. I split my slice of my Great Harvest Oat Bran bread into thirds so all 3 of us could have some. Forgot to take a photo of that, though.

DSCN5104.JPG

I also decided to try out one of these Synergy drinks. My expectations were low when I checked out and asked the guy at the register about the drink and he said it didn’t taste good, but made you feel great afterwards. I was mostly surprised that the drink was carbonated! The drink was so-so…I probably won’t get it again since I’m not as much interested in the health benefits. As it was, I only drank 1/4 of the bottle today.

DSCN5109.JPG

The park was lovely and it was so nice to get out of the office! There were geese everywhere…

DSCN5111.JPG

…and a cute fountain.

DSCN5113.JPG

Guess all my oatmeal samples finally wore down my co-worker because I helped him pick out some stuff to make his own bowls in the AM. He got some Bob’s Red Mill extra-thick Rolled Oats, flaxseed, and sliced almonds. He said he had some other ingredients to add at home.

DSCN5114.JPG

I’m super-jealous of his oats…do you see the label? Extra thick! Yum! He said I could have a try of his oats some time, so I’ll have to take him up on that offer.

1:30 pm – Iced Vanilla Latte – Content (5)

DSCN5119.JPG

After we got back, I remembered that I meant to drop a jewelry order off over lunch break, so I went back out with a co-worker who showed me where the post office was (so not far! lol) and suggested a coffee break. I made a smart choice (smarter than that white chocolate mocha for sure!) and had a 12 oz vanilla iced latte with skim milk. This was a much better selection calorie-wise that the WCM.

2:00 pm – Raw Broccoflower – Content (5)

DSCN5118.JPG

I was feeling pretty snacky today, so I enjoyed some raw broccoflower. Have you seen this stuff before? I think the color is so cool! It’s supposed to be a mix between broccoli and cauliflower, but I think it’s much more like the latter.

DSCN5122.JPG

I also had a ripe, juicy pear, which I took outside to enjoy while I soaked up a quick minute or two of extra sun. It felt great outside – I couldn’t help myself!

4:30 pm – Babybel + GH Oat Bran Bread – Content (5)

DSCN5127.JPG

I was feeling hungry again near the end of the day, so continuing in my snacky ways today, I later had a Babybel cheese…

DSCN5131.JPG

…and that second piece of GH Oat Bran bread that I originally brought into work to make a sandwich. I ate it plain – it is that good! It was sooo soft and it smelled like heaven. I enjoyed every bite and was a little sad when it was gone. Good thing I have the rest of the loaf left to enjoy! I won’t have any for lunch tomorrow, though because I’ve talked some co-workers into going back to the Indian buffet! Yay!

7:45 pm – Sushi Dinner – Full (7)

DSCN5149.JPG

I actually went by TJ’s after work today and picked up food to make dinner tonight and lasagna for later in the week, but hubby talked me into getting sushi for dinner. He said he was in the mood to eat out and I caved since we didn’t get the sushi we wanted last Friday, even though we did have a cute pizza-dinner-date.

We hit up our fave sushi place in town – RuSan’s.

DSCN5135.JPG

I started with some miso soup, which didn’t have seaweed or tofu in it, but was darn tasty anyways. I like to start with the miso because it’s delicious, but it also helps me not eat too much sushi since the soup fills me up quite a bit.

DSCN5138.JPG

We ordered 1 large sushi roll and 2 smaller rolls on the side. Hubby used to like to order lots of food when we went out, but I prefer to order a little. Especially when you’re having a sushi dinner – you can always order another roll if you’re still hungry. We ended up barely finishing all the food we had.

DSCN5140.JPG

We ordered a “Crunchy Mui Bueno” – tempura shrimp, extra crunchies, spicy mayo, avocado, cucumber, rice, seaweed wrapper, eggs (masago maybe?)

DSCN5142.JPG

“Tempura Asparagus” roll – this one’s pretty self-explanatory. We love to get this as an appetizer. I tried to talk hubby into getting the roll sans tempura, but he voted “with” and I think it tastes better this way anyways.

DSCN5141.JPG

“California Roll” – crab + avocado + eggs (I think masago?). I know – a bit boring, but I love the simplicity of this one.

Plate # 1 – one piece of each roll

Plate #2 – one of each roll encore

DSCN5151.JPG

Plate #3 – this is a photo of a piece of Crunchy Mui Bueno after I took a bite out of it. The roll is huge and I simply can’t eat an entire piece in one big bite. Trust me, I’ve tried. I have to eat this roll in 2 bites and getting through that seaweed wrapper is no easy task! This poor little piece fell right apart. Some times, I can get half of the roll down much more neatly, but tonight…not so much. It still tasted delish and that’s all that matters!

I had a hard time figuring out when I was truly full tonight, but I think I did fairly well. Since my portions were so small, the calories weren’t too terrible. The tempura rolls really take the “healthy” out of sushi, but they are so darn good!

9:45 pm – Cookies + Milk – First Signs of Feeling Full (6)

IMG_3710.JPG

I had already downed half a TJ’s Chocolate Chip cookie before I realized I hadn’t yet taken a photo of my dessert. I quickly propped it up and snapped a couple shots (veeeery quickly) so I could finish it up asap.

IMG_3711.JPG

I also had a 1/2 cup of 2% milk.

At this point, I was just under my calorie-intake goal, but I kept thinking about those darn cookies. I tried really hard to resist (well, maybe not that hard), but I figured…life is too short to worry about 1 silly cookie…so what if it puts me over my goal a little?

IMG_3714.JPG

So, I had another one while I was catching up on my Google Reader posts. It was totally worth it!

Calorie Summary

Calories Eaten: 1574

I didn’t work out today, so I didn’t “burn” any extra calories, but I think today went pretty well. Even looking at the numbers, I still don’t regret eating that second TJ’s cookie…hehe. 🙂
