Operation Beautiful Race Signage

IMG_7932.jpg

I used “uses for old bread” #5 to make lunch today (and use up the last of our old bread.

IMG_7914.jpg

I had yerba mate tea with honey, a sunflower seed butter and strawberry jam panini, and a large baby romaine/arugula salad Operation Beautiful Signage

IMG_7920.jpg

with more yummy cherry tomatoes from our garden.

IMG_7922.jpg

I also dove into this Acai Pomegranate Mate & Hibiscus tea from Earthfare that I’ve been hoarding the last couple months. It was really, really good! I loved the flavor!

IMG_7924.jpg

Post work I painted my nails again. I did a not-so-hot job the last time and it started chipping off near my cuticles already. Reeeee-dooooo!

IMG_7928.jpg

Hubby picked up bread for the week and (this time a large) cinnamon roll. I snacked on half of this. Nomm

IMG_7932.jpg

I found Bailey snuggling with “baby”. Poor little guy is zonked out after his big vacay.

I had phone conferences until 6:30pm tonight! This meant no zumba…

or did it?!

I actually was really in the mood for a workout, so I had zumba for one in my sunroom and practiced leading songs that I wasn’t as familiar with. I also worked on adding cue moves to the song I choreographed but have yet to debut in class! It’s a new bhangra…shhhh. Mum’s the word till I debut it. :)

I was short on time so I only did a 30 minute class, but I still was so glad I did it! I felt a lot more revitalized afterwards!

IMG_7935.jpg

Dinner was spaghetti (WW) and meat sauce with fresh parsley from our garden.

IMG_7938.jpg

Plus a couple bites of this garlic cheese toast, which was really more like a cheese panini. lol

IMG_7941.jpg

IMG_7943.jpg

Then, it was off to visit Caitlin and Kristien to watch So You Think You Can Dance!!!

IMG_7939.jpg

I brought some 3 buck chuck and the rest of my cinnamon roll. Both so good!

IMG_7940.jpg

And we also got to chat it up with Kath! We have lots of fun activities planned with her this weekend since it’s her last weekend as a local resident! :(

IMG_7942.jpg

IMG_7946.jpg

IMG_7947.jpg

We also worked on Operation Beautiful signs for Caitlin’s race this weekend.

IMG_7952.jpg

Ta-daaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!! They all looked amazing! So glad to be able to participate in such a positive activity!

Can you guess which ones I wrote? :)

From Old Bread to Gourmet Breakfast

IMG_7909.jpg

Did you see all the fun posts I wrote while I was on vacation at the lake?

Here’s a list of posts in case you missed any – there are some gorgey photos there (thanks to the beauty of nature):

Such fun!

From old bread to gourmet breakfast!

IMG_7897.jpg

Despite us taking our leftover bread to the lake, we STILL had some left when we got back! By this time, the bread was far from fresh but still good to eat.

What do you do with old, dry bread?

IMG_7899.jpg

Well, there are a lot of things you can do but one of my favorites is to make FRENCH TOAST!

Ok, so maybe it’s not “gourmet” in the classic sense but it’s gourmet to me!

IMG_7903.jpg

Especially topped with blueberries and sliced almonds, with a drizzle of real maple syrup.

IMG_7909.jpg

I also recommend these uses for old bread:

  • Toasting it
  • Making a breakfast casserole
  • Making a bread pudding dessert
  • Making bread crumbs
  • Making a panini
  • Feeding it to the birds

What’s your favorite thing to do with old bread?

Fresh Pasta Al Fresco

IMG_7860.jpg

Even though hubby and I were “home”, we decided we didn’t want to end our vacay just yet.

IMG_7847.jpg

We got dressed up for a date night out.

We went to Fiamma’s to enjoy their restaurant week menu – a 3 course dinner. I’ve dined here a few times before. It’s one of my favorite spots in town because almost everything here is made from scratch, in-house. Gotta love that!

IMG_7854.jpg

IMG_7852.jpg

Homemade breads and pesto dip.

IMG_7860.jpg

The menu was the same color as my dress!

IMG_7864.jpg

IMG_7867.jpg

We decided to eat dinner al fresco, even though it was bit on the hot side.

IMG_7863.jpg

White wine was perfect for our outside meal.

IMG_7869.jpg

IMG_7870.jpg

I started with the scallop appetizer over a cauliflower puree.

IMG_7872.jpg

Sorbet palate cleanser.

The restaurant was packed and our appetizer took a long time to come out. Hubby and I were in no rush (plus thanks to our years waiting tables we are pretty understanding with common restaurant trouble spots) so we didn’t mind the wait. The restaurant apparently felt so bad about our wait, though, that they got us a round of drinks. Just another sign of how great this restaurant is – their customer service is proactive AND effective. Customer service is big to me, so I appreciated the gesture. Thank you Fiamma!

IMG_7878.jpg

Hubby got the sea bass, which I tasted. It had a great flavor!

IMG_7874.jpg

I had the taglioloni with shrimp and a cognac sauce.

IMG_7880.jpg

The dish was quite rich but had a lovely flavor. I could have used some more veggies, but I ended up stealing some of hubby’s.

IMG_7885.jpg

I ended up not being able to eat most of my pasta, which was a shame because I know Fiamma’s makes theirs from scratch!

I’m hoping hubby will enjoy the pasta for a nice lunch tomorrow.

IMG_7888.jpg

Hubby got the ricotta cheesecake for his dessert. I had a bite and loved the lightness of this dessert. I mean, it was still a bit rich (it is cheesecake afterall!) but it seemed lighter than traditional cheesecake.

IMG_7890.jpg

And I had the warm chocolate torte. I normally don’t really like flourless cake type desserts (not sure if this one was flourless, but it reminded me of that style dessert) but this one was DIVINE!

IMG_7894.jpg

The outside was cake-y and the inside was molten, sweet chocolate. I savored every bite of this dish! Nommmm!

Dinner was the perfect end to our lake vacation! :)

“Dessert” #2 = catching up on Drop Dead Diva on hulu! Woohoo!

Butterflies at the Lake

IMG_7698.jpg

I enjoyed my last breakfast at the lake with my Martha Stewart Living. It’s so nice to leisurely enjoy breakfast instead of scarfing down my eats in a rush to get to work. I really should take my time more often, not just when I’m on vacay.

IMG_7704.jpg

Gonna miss this view.

IMG_7705.jpg

All the tall trees.

IMG_7701.jpg

Maybe even the bugs and bees.

IMG_7702.jpg

The flowers

IMG_7706.jpg

The outdoor seating.

IMG_7708.jpg

Mismatched plateware and silverware.

IMG_7715.jpg

IMG_7727.jpg

IMG_7719.jpg

IMG_7727.jpg

The butterfly bush outside the house, just in front of the porch swing and all the beautiful butterflies that flocked to it.

IMG_7728.jpg

The wooden porch.

IMG_7730.jpg

IMG_7729.jpg

Patches of shadows from the leaves.

IMG_7732.jpg

Bathing suits strewn about.

IMG_7740.jpg

The kiddos playing with Bailey.

IMG_7759.jpg

Bailey running around.

IMG_7752.jpg

IMG_7756.jpg

I made more mocktails today, which I enjoyed lakeside whilst snapping some photos of the fam swimming.

IMG_7764.jpg

IMG_7768.jpg

IMG_7770.jpg

IMG_7777.jpg

Hubby’s sister and fam went for a dip today.

IMG_7783.jpg

Hubby brought Bailey out for some fresh air.

IMG_7786.jpg

I think he wanted to go for another dip.

IMG_7790.jpg

IMG_7809.jpg

IMG_7817.jpg

IMG_7819.jpg

Duckies!

IMG_7826.jpg

Last meal al fresco!

IMG_7830.jpg

Hubby’s “Uncle Bob” stopped by last night with a pork roast in tow. He roasted it low all night and it was perfectly tender for lunch today. I enjoyed it with some mac and cheese and a large serving of salad with cherry tomatoes from our garden and sunflower seeds.

Post lunch we finished packing up and hit the road.

IMG_7835.jpg

One last view of the lake before we left.

IMG_7837.jpg

IMG_7842.jpg

Soon enough we were home sweet home! Bailey was ready to sleep on his own bed…or…couch. lol

I’m sad to leave the lake but happy to be home. Here’s to sleeping in your own bed! :)
