Fried Pickles + Ice Cream

No, I’m not pregnant. You’ll have to read on for the pickles + “ice cream” story. lol

Guess who came running into the kitchen this morning at the first *plunk* of my knife hitting the cutting board? Bailey of course! He may or may not have scored himself a little bite of banana.

I had oatmeal again! It’s been too long.

Banana oats with flaxseed, chia seeds, and walnuts. Plus beautifully cozy hot coffee. Mmm…

Hubby brought me some treats to work – a mini cinnamon roll and a piece of butterscotch scuffin. They made for a great lunch dessert.

Sidenote: these shoes really pissed me off today. They looked so comfy but they were so not! I couldn’t wait to change shoes by the time I got home. Blech! I’ve had such bad luck with shoe buying the last few times. They look comfy…they feel pretty comfortable when I try them on, but wear them long distance and…not so much.

These had what I think was a plastic interior lining that just started rubbing my feet the wrong way. 🙁

I had special plans for after work.

Recognize this place? It’s Caitlin’s new place!

IMG_7005.jpg

We enjoyed a lil brewskie before heading out for dinner at Big Daddy’s to meet Cindi.

IMG_7011.jpg

We shared a plate of fried pickles.

IMG_7015.jpg

Caitlin had never tried them before! I thought they were a nice rendition of a Southern classic. Nice and crispy with a tasty ranch dipping sauce.

For the main event, Caitlin and I split a Cantina 1511 (I was just there last night!) black bean burger.

IMG_7018.jpg

And we each got our own side salad.

Thank goodness we shared food because we had so much! I ended up taking a lot of my salad home. I downed the delicious black bean burger (great flavors there!) and ate up all those yummy sweet potato fries. Another wonderful Big Daddy’s meal…hoorah!

Neither Cindi nor Caitlin had been to Yoforia before, so when we started discussing sharing a spiked milkshake, I suggested froyo as another option.

Froyo won out! (photo courtesy Caitlin)

We grabbed a sweet spot outside near a fountain to soak up the warm weather.

IMG_7031.jpg

I ended up getting the plain original tart yogurt with blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, pineapple and my fave Yorforia topping – the coconut! So tasty!

IMG_7037.jpg

Did I mention I got to meet Maggie and James?! They are the cutest little doggies. I hope they can become good friends with Bailey!

Guess what I got to preview?! Caitlin’s new book – Operation Beautiful: Transforming the Way You See Yourself One Post-it Note at a Time!! Her book is fabulous and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Score!

SUCH a fun time hanging out with Caitlin and Cindi tonight! And, I love a good weeknight outing! Let’s do it again soon girls!

Any suggestions on new shoes for me? I typically like Banana Republic and J Crew but lately they seem hit or miss comfort-wise. Ideas?

  1. That’s a SIDE salad? wow, looks awesome.
I wish I could try frozen yogurt, with all those toppings. But I don’t think it’s possible anywhere in my country to find it 🙁

  4. LOVE fried pickles 🙂

Too bad on the shoes, I wish they didn’t hurt your feet!! Have you tried some Dr. Scholls insoles?? Those always work wonders for me.

I love DSW and Endless.com for shoes. If you have a specific brand you like, searching Amazon is always worth a try 🙂

  5. I love love love fried pickles.

I love zappos for shoes – like Chase recommends Naturalizers are pretty good (and looking a little less old lady like) but Clarks are great too!

I have such horrible feet – it is so hard for me to find comfy shoes.

  6. Easy Spirit has REALLY comfortable shoes! I know what you mean about shoes being hit or miss. Shoe shopping is always so hard for me! I’m so indecisive!

Fried pickles sound intriguing and disgusting at the same time. haha

  7. I have THE SAME problem with shoes! I think it’s because my feet are wide! 🙁

Have you tried Aerosoles? I think they have wonderfully cute and comfortable shoes!

  8. All my work heels are by Enzo Angiolini, you can usually find them at Nordstrom’s, Macy’s, or online through Zappos (yay for free shipping and return shipping!).

  9. Not a fan of fried pickles, but ya got to try them once! I do love froyo though 🙂 Looks like such fun! My feet are very sensitive. You have to try aerosoles, they are the most comfy work-type shoes I’ve gotten.

  10. Another vote for Zappos. Lots of comfy brands. As for those I recommend:
    – Born (my favorite boots – 3 pairs! – are Born, like wearing bedroom slippers)
    – Sofft (super cute styles)
    – Clarks
    – Onex (for fancier).

  11. I love fried pickles! Here in Texas, they fry EVERYTHING! Every year at the State Fair it’s a huge Fry Fest; fried cheese, fried Coke, fried Grilled Cheese (yes! one year they fried a whole grilled cheese sandwich).
I love your blog! I’ve been following it for quite a while and finally wanted to comment! I love that you eat healthy food, but also include very realistic treats every once in awhile (like donut holes, my fave) I just started a blog with another dietitian and I’d love it if you could check it out some time!

    • Laura – thanks for coming out and commenting! I can’t believe they fry coke! Is that like a drink or something you eat? Weird! I’ve heard a lot of fairs are now doing fried butter!

  12. I am a shoe addict and have way too many shoes and I have had that problem in the past where they feel fine, but a few hours after wearing them, they HURT BAD! I have found that if I want to counteract that, I have to make sure that the shoes are made of leather and are of high quality. I tend to by my shoes at Nordstroms or Lord&Taylor. The brands I would recommend are Burberry, Franco Sarto, Steve Madden, Louis Vuitton, and other similar brands. Good Luck finding comfy shoes!! 🙂

  13. J. Crew shoes never have worked for me – they are notoriously painful (but really pretty!)

I also recommend Sofft, as they are stylish and super-comfy. And Indigo by Clarks has been surprising my lately with some of their chic-er styles which are also super-comfy. I also like White Mountain, but they are very hit or miss with their styles.

Good luck with the new footwear search!

    • I have one pair of J Crew shoes that I can literally wear all day! They are amazing. Then I have another couple that are too painful to wear all day. I think it has to do with them using different manufacturers or something…at least that’s my problem with Banana Republic. lol 🙂
