Changing of the Buds

Just another manic Monday. TOtally slept in longer than I expected and so I had my coffee quickly at home but took breakfast on-the-go.

Lucky me, I had some of Sweet Tater’s fabulous quinoa breakfast cereal leftover! It was delicious and just the kind of no-cook meal I needed this morning.

Of course I still had to celebrate Starbucks Monday with a tall vanilla soy latte.

For lunch, I tried out another frozen meal. I don’t like most frozen meals, but some of the ones I’ve found at Earthfare have been pretty decent. At around $5.99 – 6.99, they’re way cheaper than if I got lunch, but I usually wait till these puppies are on sale before purchasing.

I’ve been eyeing TJ’s frozen steel cut oats for the longest time and finally got some this weekend. What was I waiting for! These oats made the perfect snack!

Expect a kitchen experiment soon related to this. 😉

I busted out a Luna Sunrise bar in Vanilla Almond to top on my oatmeal. Unfortunately, while I used to be infatuated with these things, I didn’t love it as much today. I think my taste buds are changing again. Now that I’ve been eating lots of Larabars and homemade granola bars, the one I had today tasted kind of fake – I think it was all the vitamin addins perhaps?

It made for a decent topping, but I really just wanted some sliced almonds and flaxseed meal.

Post work I had a fabulous hour of ZUMBA! It would have been 2 hours, but I got stuck late at work and missed the first class. *sad face*

I made up for it with a kick a$$ hour of class!

Hubby cooked dinner for me and my friend Megan!! He made yummy grilled scallops with a roasted tomato sauce! Very fancy. I’m too lazy to roast stuff (tomatoes, peppers, etc) so I was impressed he took the initiative.

The scallops were served with rice and asparagus. So yummy! Isn’t hubby turning into quite the chef!?

Have your taste buds changed with a particular product or food item? What did you used to love to eat but can’t stand now?

  1. Fast food. I used to eat it every week, every day during my true college days. Now my stomach curls just thinking about it. Every so often I still get cravings for really good, melt-in-your-mouth french fries, but I have recently discovered sweet potato fries too and they’re just as fabulous.

  2. I agree 100% with Trang. Fast food is just not appealing to me anymore. While I don’t shun fried foods, I’d just prefer to make them myself or order them from a nice restaurant that uses quality ingredients. I also used to love Slurpees and after making my own aguas frescas for some time now, I would much rather have my own frozen treat 🙂

  3. I used to eat Cocoa Puffs cereal for breakfast every morning in high school, but no more. They now seem bland and uncreative compared to a hot bowl of oatmeal or a cold jar of overnight oats topped with anything my heart desires!! My taste buds crave more natural, real foods. As a result, I am also eating healthier foods I never used to, like brussel sprouts and okra! They used to make me gag!!

  4. I’ve noticed that I can’t handle nearly as much sugar. Things that used to taste “normal” now taste overly-sweet! I’m thinking things like peanut butter with added sugars, granola bars that are basically candy bars, etc. – used to eat it all the time, now I can barely choke it down!

  6. Even though my father worked for a candy company growing up…we weren’t ever allowed to have junk food in the house, so my change in taste is nothing to do with nutrition. I can’t stand peanut butter. No clue why. I used to like it just fine, but now? Nope. Guess that’s growing up.

  7. I have to agree with everyone about fast food. I cut back on it a year ago after looking at the point values in my Moms WWatchers book. The last time I had fast food was August 09. I also don’t like Coca Cola as much as I used to. Now I may have a sip or two, but that is it. I didn’t drink it a lot, but I would enjoy a can a few times a week. I haven’t had an entire soda in about a year also.

Ever since I stopped drinking soda which has about 40g of sugar in one can. I find it difficult to eat or drink really sweet things.

I grew up using margarine (sp?) and not liking butter. Now I won’t touch margarine and now only use yummy butter. Kerry Gold Irish Butter is SO GOOD! 🙂

  8. Yes! Many things that I used to love taste way too sweet now. I think when I cut out artificial sweeteners – Splenda – my taste buds adjusted. 🙂

  9. I used to be an intense chocoholic. Like, I needed rehab. Now I only crave it in froyo form once in a great while. So strange … I think I must have ODed in my youth.
