It could be due to improper measuring of the leavening agent (baking powder or soda), or the acid that reacts with the leavening agent during the baking process (brown sugar, honey, etc.). Heavy-handed measuring could cause too much leavener and/or acid to be added, causing too much rise in the cookies.

Also, make sure you're using baking SODA and not baking POWDER when called for. Baking soda encourages more spreading whereas baking powder encourages more lift and "puffiness" of the cookies.

Hehe yes they were good - not so much once they hardened up at room temp. A quick trip through the microwave solved that though :) I can't figure out what I do wrong with cookie recipes - mine ALWAYS puff up too much and get really cakey. I prefer a thin, chewy cookie (NOT crunchy or crispy), and I've tried a million recipes using different ovens and pans (including different parchment papers and brands of ingredients) throughout the years and they always puff up. Who knows!!

Okay...I'm stumped. Just pulled these out of the oven, I made 17 cookies (golf-ball size dough) and they cooked for 13.5 minutes - and by looks/taste/texture...they're a near-perfect dough ball! ?????

I just tried the cookie recipe...they've currently been in the oven for 11 minutes and are still in a ball shape! I didn't have ww pastry flour though, so i used regular ww flour. I wonder if that made that big of a difference? hmmm...

Monica! Oh yes...cabbage rocks! It's such an underappreciated veggie. How are you holding up with the non-planning?

Yum, you remind me that I need to incorporate more cabbage into my diet. I love that stuff!

My family is in town and they live for non-planning, I live through schedules and plans, and they are just going to roll with it and go shopping on Wednesday morning with me. Eek! Resisting the urge to meal plan has been a huge challenge.
