Project Think Positive {Week 2}

I hope everyone is having as much fun with Project Think Positive as I am. I’ve been pretty amazed at how far a little positive thinking goes, and I’m happy to hear from your responses that you’re achieving successful results, too.

Week 2 {Counter a Negative Thought with a Positive Act}

There was a time a couple years ago where I have was having a horrible day at work. Everything seemed to be going wrong. I was getting frustrated with everything, especially myself. As my frustration grew, I decided to do something positive rather than storming around or being all pissed off or sad. I wrote an Operation Beautiful note and, when no one was looking, stuck it to the mirror in the ladies restroom. I didn’t realize at the time that that’s exactly how Operation Beautiful got started, but after having that moment, it totally made sense. Sometimes the best way to counter negativity is to do something nice…not for you…for other people.

*This week’s challenge: Counter a negative thought with a positive act*

Example 1: You’re having a tough day and nothing seems to be going right for you. Rather than let your frustration set it and control your day, write an Operation Beautiful note.

Example 2: You’re feeling down on yourself for being so <insert word that applies to you here>. Instead of feeling bad for yourself, you sign up for a volunteer event.

There are so many ways you can do something nice for someone else. Can you think of some other ideas?

Reader Question #1: What’s a negative thought you had this week and what was the positive act you did to counter it. (if you’re too shy to share the negative thought, you can just share the positive act) πŸ™‚

Reader Question #2: What are some ways you can do something nice for someone else?

Reader Question #3: What is your favorite quote on giving, love, and doing nice things for other people?

  1. Great points – especially the Operation Beautiful suggestion! I think doing something nice for someone else boosts your spirit, which just shines through the rest of your mood. Being selfless just radiates – it’s a win/win for you and whoever else’s life you just touched!

  2. I totally believe in the power of positive thinking. My husband and I were in Cabo this past week and one day, it was really overcast and nasty looking outside. My husband was all upset and wanted to stay in our room all day and watch TV. I told him that he had to think positively- even with less than stellar weather, we were on vacation…in Cabo! I made him get outside and sure enough it ended up being one of the best days we had there! When you embrace the cards that are handed to you, you’ll always come out on top.

  3. Last week I was trying to work out how I was going to approach a networking event I’d been invited to and concluded that what I’d do is go there, be interested in them and see if I could help them (rather than focussing on me). It took the stress off me and I had a nice night!

    A quote (not the sort you asked for, but a positive thinking one at least!):
    “When we are faced with challenges in life, we can let them define us and hold us down or we can turn them into our greatest strengths.” (I think it’s Tracy Anderson).

  4. I missed your first post about the project but I love this and I’m definitely going to join in! I’ve been feeling pretty negative lately so this is just the boost I need πŸ™‚
    This afternoon, instead of going up to blog, I kept my mum (who’s feeling really ill) company, tidied the kitchen and cooked dinner to counter the unhappy thoughts. It worked because knowing I’d made her feel even a little better made me feel more positive!
    Love your blog πŸ™‚
