Dots + Stripes {Outfit}

I was just thinking the other day how I was getting tired of seeing the polka dot + stripes look pop up in my google reader. Have you guys noticed that, too? Of course, it wasn’t but a few hours later that I was organizing my clothes when I noticed a polka dot dress (one I’ve been considering donating since I haven’t worn it in forever, mind you) hanging in my closet. I found myself staring at the dress when an uncontrollable thought entered my mind – heeeeeeey…how would that black and white striped shirt look with that? Yup, it’s fashion blogging brainwashing, people, and it’s working. Is this what happens when you read too many fashion blogs?

Anywho, I did the next most logical thing. I burned the dress decided to try the dress on with said stripey shirt. The result…well, you can see.

I don’t hate it. Dare I say, I even like it?

The moral of the story? Don’t read too many fashion blogs! No! Wait…it’s – don’t be afraid to play with your clothes. Or was it never throw your clothes away EVER! Who am I kidding, there’s no moral here. But, I do think you shouldn’t be afraid to play with your clothes and try out combinations you may not normally be inclined to try.

Sometimes the combinations will suck. Sometimes, you’ll publish said bad-combination publicly online and your readers will tell you your look sucks. And sometimes, it just matters if you’re happy with the look you put together. 😉

  1. Great post. I think the potential is there but you should tuck your top in. looks great with the trench but a little old with your top not tucked in.
    – Just reread that this is a dress so maybe fold the top up so it’s a bit shorter and belt it. the patterns go well but something about the fit it off. Your makeup and trench do look great though.

  2. great combo but bit sloppy looking. i think it would look fantastic if the top were a strapless or strappy form fitting top that fits to your tiny waist 🙂

  3. I’m going to have to say nay, at least for myself. I think you look cute, but visually I’d drive myself crazy every time I looked in the mirror! I am, however, this way about songs- I’ll declare that I HATE a song and then after I hear it over and over again I decide I love it. So, I guess who knows!
