Hicknic Yelper Party {Charlotte, NC}

Do you Yelp? I think I use it every time I travel so I can find the best restaurants to try. If you do Yelp, or if you’d like to start, did you know that there are sometimes events put on just for you? I’m not sure how many cities are participating, but our Charlotte community manager, Ben, recently put together a fun event called a “Hicknic.” The full name was “Crown Town’s Fall Hicknic Yelper Party,” and it was open to all Yelpers (sometimes they’re only for Elite members). I’ve seen some of Yelp’s past events mentioned in email newsletters and on twitter, but for whatever reason, I never attended one. Until yesterday.

On Saturday, I met up with some of my friends to attend our local Hicknic event, which promised eats, sweets, and drinks from various vendors, many of which were local. The Hicknic took place at Ten Park Lanes, which offered up the eats (and free bowling!) – BBQ samples (pork, brisket, and baked beans). Sweets were provided by Polka Dot Bake Shop (love!) and Sweet Lorraine’s Bakery. The event was free, but they also turned it into a great charity opportunity by collecting donations for Beds for Kids, which is a local organization that helps provide beds and other furniture for kids and families who need them. A donation got you entered to a raffle for various prizes, too.

Here are some photos from the event:

I realized late that I don’t have many country-styled articles of clothing and threw this country-ish outfit together in about 5 minutes (was running late!). I even forgot I had these cowboy boots, but I was glad to get the chance to wear them again.

I had a blast at the event. It was so fun checking out the samples, hanging out with friends, enjoying the beautiful weather, and doing some photos in the photo booth. I’m already looking forward to the next event, which I hear may be later this year and holiday-themed! Follow your local yelp twitter account and subscribe to their newsletters to find out about upcoming events in your area!

Thanks for reading! I’m off to work on some new baking experiments for the upcoming holidays. Stay tuned for recipes!
