‘Tis the Season to Be Generous

Though I worked as a waitress for many years and saw many people, one couple will always stand out. I remember them being a great table. They were kind, funny, and warm, which is (sadly) not always the experience you get to enjoy in the restaurant industry. Before leaving, the gentleman told me, as his significant other smiled on, that he was going to leave a special tip for taking such great care of them. I thought I’d receive maybe a 20 or 25% tip. Imagine my surprise at seeing a 100% tip on a $60 check. Whoa!

'Tis the Season to Be Generous

Hubby and I worked for a few years during and after school at restaurants, and one thing we like to do during the holiday season is pick a couple random waiters or waitresses to pay the generosity of the couple who took care of me forward. Today we stopped at a Cracker Barrel on our way to see family, and we decided to leave a larger-than-normal tip for our waitress. On the way out, our waitress told my husband that he didn’t know how much it meant to her.

‘Tis the Season to Be Generous

I’m not sharing this story for applause. I’m sharing this story in the hope that you’ll be inspired to take action. If you can afford it, this is a great time of year to be a little extra generous, whether that’s with your friendly waitress/waiter or by making a donation to your favorite charity. Sometimes even an extra dollar or two can go a long way.
