NYC Weekend with Friends: Day 3

NYC Weekend with Friends: Day 3 was a travel day. So, we didn’t squeeze in as many activities as we did on day 1 or day 2. But, we did have one last major stop – Central Park!

I decided to take my friends to the Columbus Circle since there are so many cool features right here: from the Columbus Circle intersection itself, to the silver globe sculpture. We were at the lower corner of Central Park and primed to walk through the Upper West Side in search of brunch.

After brunch at a cute diner, we continued meandering through the Upper West Side.

We slowly made our way towards Central Park.

We lucked out with the weather. It was a beautiful day in New York City!

Central Park was kickin.

Though the weather was warming up, the fountain was not yet on. And about that fountain, I read online that the fountain was dry for many years and only restored as part of a 1980-1981 campaign by the Central Park Conservatory. You can read more about Bethesda Fountain’s history here. It’s so fun to read about how NYC has changed over the years. I love seeing the historical landmarks being properly preserved and cared for.

This looks so much different when it’s not the middle of a blizzard!

{The Imagine mosaic}

I love going to the Imagine mosaic. My dad is a big John Lennon fan, so visiting this quiet spot in Central Park reminds me of him.

Imagine all the people living for today

The mosaic is always decorated with flowers. At least it has been every time I’ve been. There was actually a man who put up beautiful floral decorations every day on the mosaic. Gary dos Santos, known as the Mayor of Strawberry Fields, gathered cast off flowers from local floral shops and used them to create arrangements on the mosaic.

Someone made a really nice video about Gary:

And this girl was handing out flowers on a bench near the Imagine mosaic. You just never know what you’ll see in NYC.

What a fun weekend with my girlfriends! Maybe I can convince them to visit me again?
