I headed down to South Carolina for a weekend of beach fun with my sister’s bridal party in Hilton Head Island.
The Carolinas are looking so much more green and blue now that I’ve spent so much time in the concrete jungle of NYC. Even simple scenes like the above look so pretty to me.
We stayed in a spacious and beautiful beach house just a short walk from the beach.
J and Sis got things kicked off on the right foot with J’s famous fried shrimp.
This was our pre-painting-party appetizer.
We headed to Wine & Design for a group activity.
Here are our finished results! As you can see, some people went rogue. In different ways from each other. Hehe
J brought some of his famous homemade pasta for our first dinner.
You may have seen on my Instagram that each of the couples took turns preparing one of the meals.
Sis and J made spaghetti and homemade meatballs. They were so good! And it was cute how they made such a good team with J on the pasta and Sis on the meatballs. #cookedwithlove
Of course, we enjoyed plenty of QT at the beach. The weather was great almost every day.
And on one of the days, hubby and I made that grilled pizza, as seen in my recent how-to post.
On one of the days, Sis and I did handstands on the beach. She and I both took gymnastics as kids, though she was much better at it than me. She did competitions and all that fun stuff. I did 0 gymnastics competitions. I loved doing the practice sessions. Until they had me start working on back walk overs on the beam. Those were terrifying! You basically lean backwards and hope your hands find the beam as you also kick your feet over your head and then hope they too land on the beam. And since you’re going backwards, you can’t see what you’re doing. You kind of have to trust your body. Yikes!
J and P cooked an impressive low-country boil for their turn on dinner.
I loved how they served it right on the kitchen island on newspaper. It was a comfy, family-style meal, perfect for enjoying with friends.
And it was so tasty too!
For our final couple’s meal of the trip, J’s brother made his famous ribs.
And I learned this cool corn tip: cut the end off where the husk is attached.
Then using a towel, squeeze the husk right off. The corn cob will easily fall right out. So much better than peeling the husk off bit by bit.
Ok and back to the ribs. J and D even made from-scratch BBQ sauce to finish the ribs.
And D made J’s mom’s famous Mac and cheese.
Dinner is served! So great to end with this delicious dinner of Southern style comfort food. Yum!
Nothing like a little sunset beach volleyball.
So thankful for a fun weekend with new family and friends.
And if you follow me on Instagram, you probably already saw photos from my sister’s wedding. The wedding was absolutely beautiful, and I’ll share photos here soon!
