Classic Thanksgiving 2016

I’m calling this post “Classic Thanksgiving 2016” because my next post will be a themed Thanksgiving! Can’t wait to share photos from our very fun and unique dinner. For now, here are photos from our 2016 Thanksgiving.

While being in NYC is fun, getting home is…not so much. My Tuesday flight was delayed from 7pm to 9:15pm. And I’d gotten to the airport pretty early since traffic can be unpredictable. So, I was at the airport for a long time. I drowned my travel sorrows in french fries and prosecco. I also ordered a seared halibut dish so I still had a real dinner. And I couldn’t be too upset about the delays.

Turns out we were delayed because of high winds. When I found out, all I could think was…I’ll wait as long as you need for the flight to be safe. #priorities

Luckily, most of the other people in the airport were really nice too. I sat a communal table, and one friendly lady offered the whole table to share in her dish of olives. Another set of girls doing some sort of work project wrapped up early and moved to the bar so a family could sit together. I mean, there was one crazy guy yelling at someone on the phone near the boarding gate, but I felt like the atmosphere was overall friendly.

Our flight finally left around 9:45 putting me home at 11:30-ish.

I had Wednesday off to take care of some errands, and I got to hang out with my friend Dana and spend QT with her pup, Sebastian.

We hit up Tupelo Honey for lunch. Luckily for us, you can order brunch on their weekday lunch menu. We got BFF breakfasts of fried eggs over hard, grits, bacon and of course…biscuits! I hadn’t been to the restaurant since it first opened in Charlotte. I’ve definitely been missing out not enjoying these biscuits at every opportunity. They had a really fluffy and cloud-like texture with a nice salty bite.

We tried beating rush hour to drive to Greenville, SC to see my parents. But, it ended up taking almost an extra hour due to all the traffic. Luckily, we had no plans that evening so we could relax.

On Thursday, we went to my sister’s mother-in-law’s house for Thanksgiving dinner with our newly extended family. Sis’s MIL (K) organized a really fun photo-scavenger hunt to complete before dinner. So, we got some fresh air and got to take in the beautiful fall scenery.

We visited my old neighborhood, and I saw many spots that brought back fun memories. The above photo is of a creek where I used to play a lot. I’m not quite sure, but there just may be a log in the background that I used to like to walk along to cross the creek.

This wasn’t part of the scavenger hunt, though. We were on the lookout for things like a set of purple and orange rocking chairs, Christmas decorations, a diving board, and a trampoline. We also took a selfie with a neighbor.

After the scavenger hunt, we headed back to K’s house to gather for dinner. There were so many of us, we sat at two different tables. I love big Thanksgiving celebrations.

Our Thanksgiving dinner was not only beautiful but super delicious too.

We had all the usual suspects plus some fun additions: turkey and gravy, garlic mashed potatoes, K’s famous mac and cheese, ham, corn pudding, sweet potato casserole, tomato-avocado salad, stuffing, home-baked Virginia bread, and cranberries.

And I shared these three slices of pie: chocolate pudding, pumpkin, and pecan. Yum!

Be Thankful

I’d love to leave you guys with this quote:

Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough. ~Oprah Winfrey

Hope my friends celebrating had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
