What to Do in NYC #1: Williamsburg and Broadway Saturday *VIDEO*

Hey guys! My friend Ali visited me in NYC over the weekend, and I thought it would be fun to share our adventures in case you’re planning a trip to NYC. When she arrived, our only real plan was to see Anastasia on Broadway. We wanted to do see a more off-the-beaten-path itinerary leading up to the show, so we headed to Williamsburg. And then there was an adorable West Village brunch the next day. Check out the video and the rest of the blog post for more!

This is part one of two of a new series I’m doing – What to Do in NYC – episode #1.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Williamsburg is a great place to visit if you want to enjoy a less mainstream NYC experience.

Cafe Mogador Brunch

We enjoyed a beautiful brunch at Cafe Mogador. I’ve been here a couple times before but for a more lunch-like experience. We got so close to sitting near the back garden area. I hope to sit back there one day. There’s an indoor garden of sorts back there that looks really pretty. I haven’t gotten close enough to figure out what it is, but it looks so nice from afar.

I’ve been eyeing the Middle Eastern Eggs dish for a long time now, and it was everything I’d hoped for. I kind of love starting my day with vegetables. Eggs are a no brainer. And pita. Yes! The sparkling lemonade was super refreshing too.

Devoción Coffee

Devoción Coffee is always a good idea.

I really considered trying something new, like the chocolate croissant. But it’s not every day you can get your hands on a guava croissant. So, that’s what I had. And Ali got one too! I also enjoyed an almond milk latte. Since the croissant is pretty sweet, I didn’t add any additional sugar to my coffee.

We managed to score a spot on the plant wall, which I attempted to fade into like that Homer meme floating around. Mix in a good Madagascar “You didn’t see anythingggggg”, and you’re set. Lol.

Check out my new friend, Piko. Her owner asked if we were okay with her dog next us. Boy did she pick the right table. We were so excited to see the cute pup!

Maybe one day I can take Bailey here?

William Vale Manhattan Skyline View

What to Do in NYC: Williamsburg and Broadway

We went to the “park” area of the William Vale hotel to enjoy some fresh air and a view of the Manhattan skyline. It looks like it’s going to get covered up by some sort of building based on all the construction present. Seems like a shame, but maybe there will be another public space there? One can hope.

Broadway Evening

We made it back to Manhattan in plenty of time to change and head out for a quick pizza dinner before the show.

I took Ali to one of my fave pizza spots, Two Boots.

I had a slide of cheese and (I believe) the “Cleopatra Jones” (sausage, onion, peppers). Plus, we split a Boylan ginger ale (made with cane sugar).

Anastasia – Broadway

When Ali asked me if I wanted to see Anastasia, I was so excited! Turns out we were both big fans of the movie and the music.

The musical was really well done. I loved hearing the songs performed live and the cast did a fabulous job. I even loved the new songs, especially the one Lily leads. She was so fun!

The show was redone to be a bit more realistic. Think less magic and more military. A magical Rasputin was replaced by a serious man named Gleb. I don’t want to give away too much so I won’t say too much more.

While I have a sentimental love for the show, I really did love the way they did the set, costumes, music, and show overall. I kind of want to see it again already! I definitely have already purchased the albums for both the original movie and Broadway version of Anastasia. Hehe.

I may or may not have left with a tiara to remember the fun evening.

Schmackary’s Cookies

We wanted something sweet after the show. Luckily for us, Schmackary’s is right down the road. As you guys may remember, I’ve been enjoying this cookies for awhile. This time I tried the Choconut Chip, which was really tasty.

We managed to just beat the crowd. Phew!

I’ll finish the rest of our weekend in the next post. Stay tuned for our relaxing West Village brunch.
