Central Park Snow and the Red Coat

Hi friends! One of my best takeaways from Thailand was the reminder to play. To create. To have fun. I’ve missed the creative process of photography and have decided to make a better effort towards getting back into it. So when it snowed in NYC yesterday, I could only think of one thing. Central Park photoshoot. Taking photos in Central Park was one of the first things I did when I got to NYC. Winter storm Jonas just happened to pass through about three weeks after my first trip.

I remembered the experience being pretty uncomfortable. At a few points, I couldn’t feel my fingers because they got so cold so quickly when I had to take my hands out of the gloves to work the camera. And my friend I nearly got lost. Our phones died. It was a bit of a mess. But I remember those photos with such fondness that the experience was 100% worth it. I hoped for another adventure along with (hopefully) great photos. The outing was a bit messy yet again but well worth it. And hopefully you enjoy the photos from it…

I started by walking through Strawberry Fields. It’s rarely this empty. Not a single person was waiting to take a photo of this Imagine mosaic.

Central Park Snow and the Red Coat

With my recent travel experience (and yes, I still owe you photos and vlog from Thailand!), I’ve been studying travel photography. It’s something I’d like to do more.

One thing I’ve learned is that you want to put yourself (or someone or something) in the photo. Otherwise, it’s just a photo of a place that anyone could have taken. Adding yourself is a way to make it unique.

I can’t tell you how difficult it was to take photos of myself in the snow.

You may not be able to tell here, but within two photo locations, my hair was already drenched with slushy snow. As was my coat, jacket (both – I had two!), gloves, and backpack. After the first photo, I already couldn’t feel my fingers, which made it difficult to operate the camera effectively. My tripod and camera continued to get covered in snow too. It was a bit of a mess. But I loved it.

There were actually a good number of photographers in the park. I met some cool people from all over. My new friend James snapped this shot for me. Thanks, James!

As I continued shooting, I learned my boots were not waterproof. Oops.

Gotta give another shout out to my fellow snow photographers. We were a bit of a team in the park, sharing photo locations, gear, etc. James helped clear snow off of my camera a few times, which was great because he had tools for the job whereas I was a bit less prepared.

All in all, it was fun and creative time! Hope you enjoyed the photos!

Another thing I’d like to bring back is fashion. As some of you know, my original blog was a fashion blog…back in the day. I’m still trying to work on that Parisian Wardrobe, so I’m not shopping a ton. But hopefully I can share an outfit here and there. I already have photos for one to share. Can’t wait!
