After our fun morning exploring Alcatraz, Julie and I headed to Cafe Gratitude to meet up with some of our blogging friends.

Blog friends!

The inside is super cute and full of positive energy.

IMG_8131 (640x427)

IMG_8172 (640x427)

I loved their self-serve water bottles on the tables.

IMG_8137 (640x427) IMG_8134 (640x427)

The card games were fun, too.

IMG_8129 (640x427)

After perusing the menu, Julie and I decided to share a few things…

IMG_8127 (640x427)

IMG_8142 (640x427)

First up – the I Am Trusting Tamal Plate – (from the menu) “A  handmade corn tamal made with stone-ground heirloom masa and filled w/seasonal vegetables served with beans, salsa verde & Mexican cilantro coleslaw

IMG_8152 (640x427)

Loved the tender tamal and it was so flavorful yet light.

IMG_8146 (640x427)

IMG_8148 (640x427)

We also shared the I Am Graceful Indian Biryani Bowl – (from the menu) “Steamed brown rice or quinoa tossed with seasonal veggies, basil, cilantro, mint & cashews in an Indian coconut-curry sauce”. We got quinoa.

IMG_8149 (427x640)

Ready to dig in!

IMG_8165 (640x427)

The bowl was so cute. It almost looked like a salad at first. It was sooo delicious! I loved the sauce.

IMG_8150 (427x640)

And a cowboy entered the restaurant at some point and serenaded all of us over food.

IMG_8168 (640x427)

IMG_8169 (640x427)

After ogling the dessert display, Julie and I knew we had to split one (ok…or two ;) ).

IMG_8187 (640x427)

I got the I Am Marvelous Raw Cacao Mocha with steamed hazelnut milk – “Elixir with steamed nut milk, cacao powder, vanilla, & agave

IMG_8170 (640x427) IMG_8179 (640x427)

IMG_8183 (640x427)

“We shared an I Am Joy “Rawmond Joy”…

IMG_8174 (640x427) IMG_8177 (640x427)

and I Am Devoted Coconut Cream Pie – “Rich coconut cream pie in a coconut-date crust”

Wow…the desserts were amazing! I love how vegan desserts are so delicious yet so light, too.

Thank you Cafe Gratitude for being so awesome!

IMG_8197 (640x427)

After lunch, I ventured back to the hotel with Mara and Julie.

IMG_8199 (640x427)

Mmm…Treat street.

IMG_8200 (640x427)

And Julie haled her first taxi cab…just for us. Awww!

IMG_8203 (640x427)

Then it was time for registration.

IMG_8205 (427x640)

And I met Dorian of Foodbuzz!

Not to mention I got my swag bag…woohoo!

Details on the swag bag next time…plus more SF fun!

All Aboard for Alcatraz

Guess where I went on Friday…

IMG_7752 (640x427)

Alcatraz! (I guess you knew that from the post title, eh? And the previous post…lol)

More on that in a minute, but back to the morning.

IMG_7685 (640x427)

The morning was cool, foggy, and gray.

IMG_7687 (640x427)

IMG_7688 (640x427)

Julie and I were planning to go to a creperie for brunch, but when we took a wrong turn and realized we were a bit late on time, we went to Posh Bagel instead.

IMG_7690 (640x427)

I got a egg-wich on spinach parmesan bagel.

IMG_7696 (640x427)

Simple but yummy.

IMG_7694 (640x427)

I also split a bear claw with Julie (well, saved my half for later).

IMG_7700 (640x427)

Plus I got a fresh-squeezed OJ and coffee.

IMG_7701 (640x427)

We had a lovely people watching view.

IMG_8086 (640x427)

But we couldn’t rest long…we had a taxi to catch for Pier 33 (look for the Alcatraz Landing sign) to board the cruise to Alcatraz. (You have to board the cruise minutes before your tour time).

You can click here to view my post with a photo gallery of over 70 photos of the Alcatraz experience.

IMG_7705 (640x427)

I was a little surprised at how busy it was at the landing, but luckily, we had pre-purchased our tickets AND printed them ahead of time, so we jumped right to the line to board the cruise.

IMG_7713 (640x427)

After a short wait, it was time to board the boat.

IMG_7716 (640x427)

Julie and I got a nice spot on the top of the boat.

Tip: If you’re on the boat and facing the water, you want to be on the right side if you want to get good views of the bay.

IMG_7751 (640x427)

The cruise over was really pretty and had lots of great photo ops.

IMG_7759 (640x427)

Tip: You can move to the bottom part of the boat before the cruise stops to beat the line. That’s what we did and it worked like a charm.

IMG_7764 (640x427)

We’re going to Alcatraz!

IMG_7774 (640x427)

After a quick welcome from a volunteer, we were off.

The tour is really casual and you can basically stay on The Rock as long as you want. You can wander around at your leisure.

Recommendations:

  • If the Agave path is open (it’s seasonal) take it. Our welcome-volunteer highly recommended it
  • Do the audio tour

IMG_8095 (640x427)

After the Alcatraz tour, we wandered over to Fisherman’s Wharf. It was very close by, so would be good to visit afterwards if you’re looking to do some touristy stuff.

IMG_8098 (427x640)

Plus they have cotton candy!

IMG_8112 (640x427)

and Churros!

IMG_8108 (640x427)

And lots of fun touristy things.

IMG_8116 (640x427)

IMG_8125 (640x427)

And we got to see the famous sea lions!

Next up…a fun lunch outing!
