If you’re anything like me, you’ve started (or have been for awhile) reducing how many processed foods you eat in favor of eating real food closer to the source. And one place this goes beyond food is all about what you put on your skin. That’s where clean beauty comes into the picture. Enjoying whole foods and loving clean beauty go together like birthdays and cake!

Let’s start with what I love…
My Favorite Clean Beauty Products
The clean beauty world can be overwhelming. Where do you even start?! I know I was confused when I first got into it.
So I’m happy to share my top 5 shopping picks both for Beautycounter (where I get most of my skincare currently) as well as other brands (that I also love!).
You can use the links at the end of this page to check out my other blog posts about beauty, skincare, makeup, and all that jazz.
My Top 5 Beautycounter Shopping Picks
For some reason, I found the Beautycounter relatively confusing when I first got started. There were multiple skin care lines and a nice range of makeup products. I’ve experimented with both. The skincare line surprised me by working so well. I didn’t expect to like so many products, but my skin is looking better than ever with Beautycounter. And the makeup is fun too.
To keep things simple, these are my top 5 Beautycounter shopping picks. I think these are great whether you’re a clean beauty newbie or have been playing with it for awhile.
I’ll share my full skincare regime another time.
My top 5 Beautycounter picks for the Beautycounter if you’re new to clean beauty:
- Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer – provides some coverage *and* SPF *and* moisture (I love this because it’s great for my busy days when I want to look good fast, plus I don’t feel like I’m wearing anything on my face)
- Countertime Lipid Defense Cleansing Oil – my go-to lazy girl makeup remover AND face cleanser – I love how flippin efficient this is – it works and is gentle while also having anti-aging benefits
- Beyond Gloss (Lip Gloss) – I’m a lip gloss girl – I can’t get enough, and this was a fun addition to my collection – a nice jelly texture with a subtle pop of color
- Reflect Effect AHA Smoothing Facial Mask (+ applicator) – okay, I didn’t want to like this one because it’s expensive, but I’m willing to invest in products that work, and this actually helps remove dead skin from my stubborn facial skin (not to mention the jello texture is fun to use!)
- Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion – I’m SO picky about my daily moisturizer, and this lightweight moisturizer makes my skin actually feel nourished while soaking in seamlessly (not to mention it smells like delicious almond extract – yum!)
I’ve LOVED using my Beautycounter products, and I have even more that are on my wishlist. I’ll definitely share how I’m liking them here on the blog and on social (see links at the end of this page).

So how did I get into clean beauty? It starts with what most of my interests start with – food!
My Clean Beauty Journey (The Short-ish Version)
Healthy Food Interest -> Healthy Skin Interest
My journey to clean beauty truly began with food. Thanks to my happy-healthy journey to a healthy lifestyle I loved, I was super into clean eating.
My curiosity about the ingredients in the foods I was eating led me to be curious about the ingredients in the products I was using on my face and body.
If I didn’t like putting certain ingredients *into* my body, why would I like putting questionable ingredients *on* my body?
A few years after getting into clean eating, I started exploring clean beauty here and there.
Afraid to Change What Was Working
Having very stubborn, acne-prone skin, I was afraid to break from my working skin regimes and makeup.
I was so worried that if I changed my beauty products, like so many times in the past, my skin would break out into a disaster all over again.
Historically, changing skin care products triggered massive breakouts that sometimes never calmed down until I found another new product.
Trying new products for me is not always fun. It can give me anxiety because I’m so unsure of the results and afraid to mess up what’s working (even if it’s not great).
So I kept using what was working, even though the products weren’t clean.
It wasn’t until my fave brand kept discontinuing the products I loved that I was literally forced into exploring other options. I found a couple products that were okay but I knew I could do better.
Finally Finding Skin Care That Worked!
So I started exploring clean beauty options with more intention.
My longtime blog friend, Kath, was one of multiple people to suggest Beautycounter to me.
To be honest, I had historically mostly ignored people talking about Beautycounter for years because I’ve engaged with some other companies in the past that felt a little spammy. Not to mention I’d once purchased an entire skincare bundle with hopes of it working so I could become a consultant. It did NOT work for my skin. And I was worried it would be the case with Beautycounter too in one way or the other.
BUT! After seeing how great my friends who used Beautycounter looked (their skin was legit glowing and so clear – AND they looked so young), I decided to try it out.
Just a couple products to start back in March of 2021.
And I LOVED them! 🤗
Bit by bit, I added a couple more products here and there. I haven’t met a product that I didn’t love yet. And my skin is looking better than ever.
“This is the clearest your skin has ever looked”
My sister literally told me over Thanksgiving:
“This is the clearest your skin has ever looked”.
🙌 🙌 🙌
I had been feeling like my skin was doing great, but it was awesome to see that my sister noticed it too!
Plus, I love that I’m using clean beauty products since eating real, unprocessed food is so important to me. It feels like I’m aligning my values beyond food, which is nice.
Not to mention your skin is your largest organ so what you put ON your body (not just in your body) is important.
Sharing My Love of Clean Beauty
As always here on The Chic Life, I love to share what challenges I’ve overcome, which solutions work well, and what I’m loving in case my research, experimentation, and experience is helpful for someone out there.
I haven’t spoken too much about beauty on The Chic Life, in general, because people kept saying to stay focused on one topic. But I can’t help it. I want to talk about what I want to talk about. And I’d really like for TCL to be more about a holistic, healthy, high vibe lifestyle. And that includes beauty!
For Beautycounter, I waited until I was confident in the products to start sharing more with The Chic Life community. It was really important that talking about Beautycounter was based on my actual own testing and use of the products. That’s why I haven’t mentioned it much until recently.
To be clear, I also use clean beauty products by other brands, and I talk a lot about those as well! But Beautycounter has won my heart by having SO many winning products that just work.
You can keep checking back on the blog to see what Beauty things I’ve been loving lately.
Clean Beauty Curious?
If you’re just clean beauty curious and have questions with no intention to buy any of my recommendations I’m happy to answer those too!
Seriously – I always love to hear from you, even if you’re just saying hi! Lol! You can contact me here or on social. See links at the end of this page.
