How To Use Calming Crystals
As you know, I’m a mix of practical meets woo.
On the woo side, crystals are said to have unique energetic properties that can heal us in different ways.
On the practical side, I find that using crystals helps me be super intentional about how I’m directing my energy. When I take a moment in my day to hold and observe a crystal, the act of pausing from what can often be a hectic day and do something so simple as look at a crystal is a form of practicing mindfulness. Plus, you let your mind take a break from whatever problems you’re sorting out in your professional or personal life.
Sometimes when I’m extra stressed, I’ll keep a tumbled stone in my purse or pocket. When I worked in an office, I’d keep some at my desk. I remember when I’d get stressed at work, I’d take one of the crystals out and just hold it, calling on the energy to help me get back to peaceful and calm energy. I always felt like it helped. And it was sort of comforting knowing it was always with me. Like that energy was always with me too.
There are many ways to use crystals, of course, but holding them and using them to shift the energy in my home are two of my favorites. Check each description below for how I use them and where I keep them in my home.
7 Calming Crystals for Stress, Anxiety, and Sleep – Manifest Calm Energy
Use these healing crystals to shift out of low vibe energy and into supportive and soothing high vibe energy. There are many calming crystals, but these are my favorites from my personal collection.
Selenite is a crystal known for its cleansing capabilities. This crystal never needs to be cleansed itself and can even be used to clear other crystals. Not to mention you can use selenite to clear your own energy. You can place it in the corners of rooms to create a calm environment at home. This is a great crystal for peaceful energy and fostering inner peace.
According to The Crystal Bible:
“A large piece of Selenite placed in the house ensures a peaceful atmosphere.”
(Good to know since I just bought a large cluster)
And in Crystals: The Modern Guide to Crystal Healing, it says you can
“keep Selenite in the bedrooms to calm restless sleepers and ward off any nightmares.”
Personally, I used a selenite wand to calm the eff down after someone said something hurtful to me. Here’s what happened…
I was upset, and I couldn’t sleep because I was so worked up, sad, frustrated, and even angry. So I went into the living room, sat on the couch, took a deep breath in and out allowing my breath to take its time, and gently waved the Selenite wand over my body to clear the negative energy from myself. While I did so, I focused on my breaths and let them go slowly. And I said calming affirmations, like the ones here, to shift back into calm energy. Within minutes, I was completely relaxed and ready for a peaceful night’s sleep.
I use a Selenite slab for charging crystals, and I have a selenite wand that I keep in the living room for good vibes and easy access for energy clearing when needed.
This beautiful light blue crystal evokes peace and calm simply by looking at it.
According to The Crystal Fix, Celestite…
“…is an effective anti-anxiety tool and will allow you to replace any negative feelings with inner peace.”
This is also one of the crystals that the book recommends for the bedroom because of its calm energy.
And the book Crystal Muse says that Celestite is…
“…believed to help you attract angels into your life.”
In my home, I have a beautiful celestite cluster next to the bed to help evoke peaceful vibes when I’m relaxing, reading, and sleeping in bed.
A powerful stone of tranquility, I didn’t know much about lepidolite until the energy healer at my local crystal shop (Crystal Way SF), John, recommended it when I said I’d been having trouble sleeping. He suggested I put the crystal under my pillow. So I purchased a crystal, put it under my pillow, and…slept like a baby. I’ve been sleeping well ever since!
The book Crystals: The Modern Guide to Crystal Healing says that Lepidolite is
“one of the best calming and stabilising crystals for when life gets overwhelming.”
And Crystal Muse confirms this, saying,
“It’s one of the best crystals for relieving anxiety because it naturally contains lithium.”
Rose Quartz is known as a stone of love.
From The Crystal Bible, we learn that,
“Rose Quartz is the stone of unconditional love and infinite peace.”
Yes, love AND peace!
Beyond its love properties, this crystal can help you with healing emotional pain and is also known for being very calming.
In my experience, I found rose quartz to be very soothing and comforting when I was going through my divorce. Perhaps because of it’s calming nature and ability to help with self love (among other forms of love). At that time, when I’d get upset, I’d hold it to my heart.
The Crystal Bible also teaches us that Rose Quartz helps shift away from low vibes and into more positive vibes because it helps push away negative energy and attracts loving energy.
I’ve been keeping my Rose Quartz in my bathroom as a reminder for self love. And The Crystal Fix actually has this crystal listed as one of the great stones just for this room of the house!
I feel like amethyst is known as being one of the most popular crystals for general good energy. But here’s a funny story. I was looking up this crystal in the index of one of my reference books, The Crystal Fix, and I accidentally went to the “Index of Stones by Need” section. So I said, what the heck, let’s see what this book suggests for “Calm”. There were only two stones listed there. Guess what one was? Amethyst!!
According to the same book, the healing properties for Amethyst are:
Pretty good, right?
Much of the research I did (across multiple books and web sites) suggested that amethyst is soothing and that it would be great in the bedroom. So that’s where mine is. Right next to my celestite cluster (see above section for details on that guy).
And according to Crystals: The Modern Guide to Crystal Healing, Amethyst…
“…helps us unplug from unhealthy attachments, and powerfully cleanses body, mind, and aura from negative or addictive patterns.”
I only have a small tower of amethyst, but I’m currently shopping for a large cluster. I’d ideally have one or two statement crystals in my space, and I’m hoping to find the right amethyst for me and my home!
Blue Lace Agate
This is one of my favorite crystals for de-stressing. I got my first piece in a kit for helping heal burnout. I keep this at my desk so if I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed with work, I’ll place the crystal on my forehead or just hold it for a minute. It helps me remember to take a mental break no matter how important my work is or what’s going on around me.
The book Crystal Muse says that this crystal is “the go-to touchstone for relieving anxiety and stress.” According to the Blue Lace Agate listing on energymuse.com (the site where I actually got my Blue Lace Agate), the directions to use are:
Hold the Blue Lace Agate Crystal in your hands when you feel stress and tension rising. Place it over your pulse point on your wrist and take nine deep breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth. Allow the crystal to guide you to a calmer state.
Sounds nice, right?
I discovered this amazing crystal in my favorite local crystal shop, Crystal Way SF. Their energy healer, John, recommended this crystal to me when I came in wanting something to assist with my emotional healing. He said he actually uses this crystal in his energy healing sessions. Naturally, I was intrigued.
I hadn’t actually heard of this crystal before, and I fell in love with its unique shade of pink. So, of course, I bought one of the beautiful crystals to come home with me.
If I’m ever feeling sad or upset, I’ll hold this one on my heart or in my hand for calm and loving energy. So I can get to it quickly, this one stays on my desk.
Summary of Healing Crystals for Calm and Peaceful Energy
And that’s my list! Of course there are many other crystals that would help with de-stressing, relaxing, managing anxiety, and aiding in sleep troubles. But these were the ones that came to mind when I started thinking about which crystals would be most helpful for my community in these difficult times. Not to mention I personally have and use all of these crystals.
If you want to learn more about the crystals listed above (I just scratched the surface of the properties of each) or if you want to learn about other healing crystals, check out the books I used. When I’m researching crystals, I love referencing paper books. There’s just something so satisfying about it. Maybe it reminds me of how I frequented a crystal shop in NYC, Rock Star Crystals, and how they had a set of reference books I’d flip through when I was crystal shopping and going through the first stages of my healing journey? I remember shopping there fondly.
