Mom’s Birthday Weekend

The SO, Bailey, and I went to visit my parents for the weekend to celebrate my mom’s birthday.  I love my little trips to my parents’ house because they have a cozy house away from the hustle and bustle of the city where we can relax and eat and talk about old times and eat and I can knit & crochet with my sister and we can eat…did I saw we could eat?  If I hadn’t mentioned before, my mom is Filipina (from the Philippines), so we really like to eat.

On Saturday, I went with my mom and sis to run some errands, and while we were checking out at Hobby Lobby (building my fabric stash…woohoo) we noticed tiny white flurries fluttering through the air.  It was snowing!  Now, if you’re from the south, you’ll understand that even a couple flurries are a big deal in the south – to us, even the slightest bit of white falling from the sky is "snow." We wrapped up our errands and headed straight for the grocery store where we stocked up on goodies to cook up for later.

One thing we got from the store was a French baguette for a snack.  My parents, especially my dad, like to snack on various cheeses, but they usually eat crackers with them.  I prefer to eat cheese with toasted baguettes…a little trick I learned on Food TV.  Simply slice the bread, lay it out on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil and toast under the broiler.  It’s soooo much better than crackers IMO, and my parents really enjoyed trying their snack this way.  We had the baguette slices with brie, baby cheddar and pimento & cheese spread.

My SO and I took a break from the fam and the food to take Bailey on a little walk in the snow.  As you can see, it wasn’t sticking well, but a little snow is better than none.

Back inside, my mom made friends with Bailey.

He was a happy puppy with his treat.

I’ll post more later about all that eating I was talking about.

  1. Well, I think a blue one would be lovely after seeing yours. Bailey is a sweetie pie. Yes, I heard that parts of the South that have never seen snow saw it yesterday. We got a bit here and it was oh so cold today. Better tomorrow. The baguettes look delicious. Great idea.
