To Charleston We Go

Saturday plans rotated around a trip we were making later in the day to Charleston, SC to see one of my best sorority sister friends get married.

Hubby slept in, but I did not. I woke up ready for a nice hot bowl of oatmeal and did a play on my Apple Pie Oats by adding some coconut leftover from those Clean Food Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. I used a Farmers Market apple, plus some skim milk, unsweetened coconut, almonds, and agave.

I started out just eating the oatmeal, but quickly zapped a Morningstar “sausage link” to have some savory to balance all the sweetness. I just love how convenient my MS frozen foods are – esp for a girl on the go.

I also had a nice hot mug of Fresh Market Breakfast Blend and the other half of the oatmeal that didn’t quite fit into the bowl of oats.

Great way to start the day!

We stopped by the house on the way out of town to check up on it. Look at that wall paper! Retro! haha

After a long 3 1/2 hours on the road (part of which was spent in some scary-heavy rain), we were entering Charleston.

I LOVE the new bridge they built to replace the old Cooper River Bridge. They have a 5K here every year…I’m not big into running, but I would like to participate one day. Even if I have to walk! Just went to the Cooper River Bridge Run web site so I could link it here…guess it’s actually a 10K, not 5K…hmm…I would still like to tackle it one day!

I snapped some pretty sweet photos as we drive over the bridge:

The wedding was in the downtown Charleston area, but those hotels are pricey! We’re trying to put all our money towards renovations, so we just stayed in Mt. Pleasant, which is really nice anyways AND more affordable. It’s about a $15 (with tip) cab ride into the downtown Charleston area, so it was the most cost-effective solution for us.

Anywho, we would have liked to have turned the wedding trip into a weekend adventure, but like I said, with the renos going on right now, we really should be putting as much money as possible towards the house. So while I would have liked to have headed to Charleston Friday night and make a weekend of it so I had time to see friends, we ended up arriving with just enough time to find our hotel, change and get ready and head to the wedding.

Next time we’ll stay longer…promise!
