Quick Philly Steak Stop

After our yummy pancake breakfast, hubby and I headed out to run errands and stopped at Duckworth’s Grill and Taphouse for a quick bite to eat.

When I think Duckworth’s, I think of 2 things:

  1. philly cheese steaks
  2. great beer selection

IMG_4728.jpg

So hubby and I indulged in both.

IMG_4730.jpg

A pale ale and IPA sampler, selected by our waiter because he was much more knowledgeable of the beers than I was.

IMG_4731.jpg

I really liked the Belgian…I think it was Magma-something.

IMG_4729.jpg

I think hubby was just really happy to be in one location with so many TVs! I think I counted 15, but there may have been more?

IMG_4734.jpg

Hubby and I split the mozzarella caprese salad for an appetizer.

IMG_4737.jpg

And then we split a 7″ philly cheese steak with provolone, lettuce, and tomatoes.

IMG_4743.jpg

Plus hand cut fries!

Hubby and I really enjoyed lunch – the eats and the atmosphere.

I used to hate going to sports-bar type places with hubby but now that they’re non-smoking, I really enjoy it. It’s kind of nice to get out and relax and watch a couple (or 15) games on TV.

Do you like sports bars? Why or why not?

Pumpkin Pancakes + Cinnamon Syrup

IMG_6808.jpg

I was craving something fall-ish for breakfast, so I decided to try to make homemade pumpkin pancakes from scratch.

IMG_6790.jpg IMG_6791.jpg

The key ingredient – canned pumpkin. I like the organic version (which I pretty much only buy when it’s on sale).

IMG_6795.jpg

I added walnuts to the batter while the pancakes were cooking.

IMG_6798.jpg

And for protein, we had scrambled eggs with cheese on the side.

IMG_6802.jpg

The pancakes came out ok, but I wasn’t 100% happy with them, so I won’t be sharing the recipe at this time.

IMG_6807.jpg

The sauce was pretty awesome, though.

IMG_6810.jpg

I made a cinnamon syrup sauce.

IMG_6811.jpg

At first I was just going to heat up cinnamon with maple syrup, but when I realized I was low on maple syrup, I decided to adapt a recipe I’d seen awhile back from Giada.

Cinnamon Syrup

Adapted from this recipe by Giada DeLaurentis

Serves 2-4 (4 if you go light on the syrup, 2 if you go heavy)

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (you could use a little less if you don’t want the sauce too strong)

Directions:

  1. In a small saucepan or butter warmer, combine sugar, water and cinnamon and whisk together. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Reduce to simmer.
  3. Simmer till liquid is reduced by about half.
  4. Allow to cool before serving (or serve warm, but not hot)

Enjoy!

How to Dress Up Your T-Shirt and Jeans – Part 2

So, last time we talked dressing up your t-shirt and jeans, I suggested the addition of a blazer.

IMG_6771.jpg

Here’s another idea – add fun jewelry! I’m sporting a pretty green jewelry set my friend Megan got me for my birthday.

IMG_6767.jpg

I don’t particularly love the shoes I’m wearing with this outfit. I don’t think they really go, but I didn’t want to wear boots, heels, or open-toed shoes since we’d be out running errands. Comfort > style lol

First stop – Starbucks for Halloween party planning. Hubby and I are having a small potluck on Halloween.

IMG_4715.jpg

Party planning fuel = cinnamon chip scone and soy pumpkin spice latte.

IMG_4716.jpg IMG_4720.jpg IMG_4722.jpg

Our little session was pretty productive.

IMG_4723.jpg

Any ideas what this may become?

Post-shopping, it was time for dinner. We hit up our fave Mexican spot in town – 1900 Mexican Grill.

IMG_6783.jpg IMG_6785.jpg

Sangria pitchers are half off on Saturdays, so we got one of those. It was HUGE! And dee-licious. :)

IMG_6773.jpg IMG_6776.jpg IMG_6780.jpg

Chips and dips – salsa, corn salsa, cheese dip.

IMG_6789.jpg

Plus, we split a combo of chicken enchilada, shredded beef burrito, rice and beans.

Back to the shoes…I’ve been fighting the trend of everyone wearing Uggs, but they look so darn comfortable and actually seem like they can be dressed up slightly. I may have to invest in some. The boat shoes are not cutting it and almost all my other boots have heels, which are not exactly what I’m trying to wear when Im doing some serious walking. Know what I mean? I usually just wear flip flops when the weather is warm, but not that it’s so cold…I gotta figure something else out. Suggestions?

What are your favorite fall shoes for running errands or otherwise being on your feet quite a bit?
