Local Sweet Potato Fries

Hubby and I set out to run some errands this afternoon.

I brought a Babybel to snack on.

First up – rug shopping!

We found a couple rugs we liked for the bedroom:

Feels light and airy

Feels modern and fun

Then, we scoped out potential rugs for the dining room:

Traditional with plenty of colors

Fun and playful with a darker base.

We didn’t buy any rugs tonight. We took the measurements and need to figure out if they’ll even work in our rooms before buying them.

After rug shopping, we hit up Home Depot and then Lowes to buy shelves for our basement. We gotta have somewhere to put all our crapola!

Now we just need plastic bins!

While we were out, we swung by Earthfare for dinner. I was CRAVING sweet potato fries and Earthfare actually serves LOCAL sweet potato fries…sweet!

Hubby and I split a salad to start – romaine, baby spin, baby greens, purple cabbage, carrots, sweet bell peppers, sprouts, celery, broccoli, feta and vinaigrette dressing.

I ordered the kid’s burger – local grass-fed beef with local sweet potato fries on the side. So tasty! Though kid sized (and a steal at $3.99), I still couldn’t finish it! Hubby had the last bite of burger and I took half the fries home.

Btw, the fries had this sprinkling of coarse salt on top…heaven! I loved the sweet-salty combo.

Next up, hubby and I went to Barnes & Noble to research.

I found a nice stack of books to browse – pretty diverse, no?

Snack = a whole wheat chocolate chip cookie (from Earthfare) and African Autumn hot tea with honey.

I really liked this Kitchen Garden book. It had lots of pictures and seemed to be a good reference guide for a beginner gardener such as myself.

I also really liked this Domino – The Book of Decorating book. It had some great tips and basic info.

I held off on buying these books, though. I want to research them more. In fact, I may have found a garden book more up my alley – Square Foot Gardens with Mel!

Instead, I came home with One-Yard Wonders, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff, and a Dilbert Desk Calendar (50% off- holla!). I LOVE new books!

Have you found any good books lately?

  2. so much to say to this:

    1) earthfare looks AMAZING.

2)I'm also researching some "small gardneing" books – i have a stack of them that I am planning on using as I start a small kitchen/deck garden this spring. (and square foot gardens is one of them!) I haven;'t spent too much time reading them yet, but as I do I'll let you know which books are the best (seriously, i think i have 6 different books.)

    3) and i love that domino book! ive looked at it several times at the bookstore

4)And the one-yard wonders book has been picked up to purchase and put back down about 30 times this fall/winter.

5)all that being said – i wish we lived closer so we could share our books! and our hobbies 😉

6)i spent $60 at a Borders that is closing last night- got some great deals. am actually about to blog about them tonight- got a few great cookbooks and healthy living books for 50% off and a few other BARGINS 🙂 (you know i love a great deal!)

    HAPPY NEW YEAR, my friend!!
