After dim sum and a photoshoot on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, we headed back underground to continue subway training. And get back to Manhattan. To West Village, specifically.
Yay! Subways are so fun!
My First NYC Pizza at Two Boots
Since we ate dim sum so late, neither of us were hungry for a big dinner. So, Dana thought this would be a good time to introduce me to NYC pizza. Our first stop – Two Boots. Besides having delicious pizza in general, Two Boots also offers vegan and gluten-free pizza, which seems to excite many reviewers on Yelp. I thought some of you would be interested too.
I loved the playful and colorful interior.
And I loved the pizza too. Yum! Dinner was a steal at (I believe) only $2.75 for a slice of cheese.
Speakeasy Cocktails at Employees Only
Next up, Dana took me to Employees Only, which is a “secret” speakeasy. There are several secret bars in town, and I hope to visit more of them. So far, I was off to a good start with Employees Only. This was a short walk away from Two Boots in West Village. We passed a fake psychic and made our way to a beautiful bar with bartenders in crisp white jackets shaking and pouring drinks with style.
I went with the Thunder in Paradise: Caña Brava 7yr Rum & Gonzalez Oloroso Sherry with Fresh Lime Juice, house made Orgeat & Coconut. Served tall on crushed ice. $16
Yas!
We opted for the bartender’s choice for round 2.
Dana and I were trying to take a photo at the bar when we got photobombed! I was using my new camera with a flip-up screen, so I noticed right before one of the snaps. So funny!
NYC Pizza Round 2 at Joe’s Pizza
We caught a second wind after Employees Only, so Dana took me to Joe’s Pizza.
Pizza is always a good idea! I really enjoyed this slice too.
Giant Cookies at Pasticceria Rocco
And since we passed an open bakery, we stopped at Pasticceria Rocco. We each got cookies as big as our heads.
Photographic evidence of cookie size.
They were delicious, and I often go back to get them. And other delicious sweets, like their famous cannoli.
And with that, subway training was over! I even rode the subway back solo that night. I was pretty nervous actually, but I made it safe and sound.
