10:15 am – Coffee + 1/2 Serving Cranberry/Strawberry Oats – Content (5)
I woke up to a sticky note from hubby saying he went to the gym and a pot full of brewed coffee…aww. I decided to wait for him to make something to eat in case he wanted something, too. That was a big mistake.
By the time he got there, it was just after 10 am, and he didn’t want anything to eat. I made some stove top oats in a Cranberry/Strawberry combo and got some coffee together.
Pre-cooking:
- 1/4 cup Fresh Market old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp flaxseed
- 1 tbsp dried cranberries
- 1/4 tsp sugar
Post-cooking:
- 1 tsp seedless strawberry jelly, stirred in
- 1 tbsp 2% milk, stirred in
- 1 tbsp pecans, on top
While I was eating, hubby asks if I’m going to be ready to leave in 20 minutes. Wha???? I totally forgot we were meeting some friends for lunch and a movie and had to drop my coffee and oatmeal to start getting ready. I still had to take a shower and wash my hair! Ack!
Luckily, the weather was so lovely, I let my hair air-dry, but I only got to finish half of my oats and half my coffee…zut!
11:45 am – Macaroni Grill – First Signs of Feeling Full (6)
The friends we hung out with today, Justin & Emily, are our Mac Grill buddies. They love this place and so do we, so we go here 99% of the time we get together.
The meal started with, what else, the peasant bread! This stuff is so good, but the nutrition info! Not so hot.
My first piece.
My second piece. I had about 1/4 loaf of bread, plus some balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
I ordered the Honey Balsamic Chicken. If you’re trying to eat healthy at Mac Grill, def stick with the grilled items – especially the “Skinny Chicken” or the “Simple Salmon.” I almost ordered the Mozzarella alla Caprese for my lunch because it is that good, but I haven’t had this chicken dish in a loooong time, and it sounded great.
When the plate came out, it was huge, so I knew there was no way I was going to finish it. I eat different pieces of the dish (I know some people eat, for example, all the chicken first, then all the broccoli, etc), but I focused on finishing the broccoli first, then the chicken, then the pasta. I only had a wee bit of the pasta – maybe 1/4 cup…seriously! I was stuffed from the bread, broccoli, and chicken! Hubby was more than pleased at my request to help finish my food.
I had water with my meal.
1:15 pm – Movie Theater Snacks – First Signs of Feeling Full (6)
I was pretty full from lunch, but we headed to the movie theaters next to see Watchmen, and I couldn’t resist some movie-theater-snacks. We got some buttered popcorn and some coke. I could only eat a little of the popcorn and can only drink so much soda in one sitting, so the snack wasn’t nearly as terrible as you’d think (not that I’m saying it’s “good” either, though!). The movie was pretty good, but looooong and you may want to think twice about taking kiddies there. I’m not trying to tell anybody what to do, but a warning is fair, no? 🙂 I really enjoyed the cinematography of the movie, for sure…some really cool special effects and scenes in there – especially when the girl heros were kicking the bad guys arses!
4:45 pm – Starbucks – Content (5)
After the movie we hit up Great Harvest and I got some Oat Bran bread for the upcoming week. We noticed a Starbucks in the shopping center where GH was, so we decided to take advantage of the weather, grab some drinks, and relax on the patio. I had a tall, iced, white, non-fat, mocha, which was delish and is one of my all-time faves. The calorie info wasn’t so fun to look up, but I’ll still order it even knowing what I know.
The sun was bright and the wind was blowing gently – it was quite pleasant out there.
The sky beyond our canopy.
I even broke my flip flops out for the first time this year! I need a pedi! lol
7:15 pm – Walk with Bailey – Relaxed
Later, after we got home, we took Mr. Bails out for a walk. Towards the end of the walk, I was feeling extra energized, so I did a wee bit of jogging to test out the new shoes. They felt great! So much lighter and more supportive than my other, older shoes. Hubby got frustrated because he said he likes the walks to be relaxing, so I had to stop. Oh well, maybe I’ll go out on my own tomorrow?
We were gone about 45 minutes and I just now realized that I forgot to stretch after we got back…whoops! Guess that’s what happens when you walk before you eat and have food on the brain as soon as you return.
8:30 pm – Chicken Quesadillas + Chips + Queso – First Signs of Feeling Full (6)
Hubby helped prep dinner by shredding the extra roast chicken breasts from Thursday night’s dinner. I think he’d been looking forward to this meal as early as Wednesday when I first suggested it…lol. I got the idea from Quick Fix Meals with Robin Miller, but I totally didn’t follow her recipe for tonight’s dinner…just for the first one.
While he got the chicken ready, I sauteed some red onion and green pepper, which we had in stock from our organic produce delivery service. I just cooked them in a bit of olive oil.
Hubby stepped out to get chips + queso from Moe’s and I assembled the quesadillas – a layer of shredded chicken, then sauteed veggies, then cheese. Next time, I’ll put cheese as the first AND last layers to help hold everything together better. They were kinda hard to flip!
I also still need a big griddle. I cooked these in a 9″ non-stick pan b/c the tortillas were sticking to our large stainless pan. Guess we’ll have to go shopping later this month?
The meal turned out great! The quesadillas were a great way to use up leftover cooked chicken meat…I’ll have to remember this next time we have leftover roast chicken!
Oh, and do you like the new placemats? I picked these up from Pier 1 today – just 2 for me and hubby, though I may go back for more to entertain with next time.
Queso.
I topped the quesadillas with some fresh, chopped cilantro, which Moe’s actually gave us for free! I also portioned out 7 tortilla chips to eat with a little of the queso.
I only had 3 of the 4 pieces of quesadilla. Hubby happily ate the fourth. I did grab 2 more tortilla chips, though. 🙂
For dessert, I had our second (and sadly last) kiwi from our organic delivery. It was soooo good! I don’t know why I never bought these at the grocery store before. I guess the funny looking seeds always scared me away, but they’re hardly noticeable, must like strawberry seeds. The kiwi was the perfect end to my day’s eats!

I ate a lot of food today, but I think I did pretty good with my portioning, which helped keep my calories in control. The walk with hubby and Bailey certainly helped keep my calories in check, too. I’m hoping to get a good work out in tomorrow, but until then, I’m off to cuddle with hubby and Bailey on the couch. Later!
yummy eats! I think you did a great job with the portion control. and love the last refreshing pic of the kiwi! and god…that quesadilla looks all plump and charred perfectly!
yummy! what delicious foods. im proud of you for not digging into the pasta first…that's my weakness 🙂 hope you guys are getting more sunshine today!!
