Healthful Eating – Delivered!

I was so jealous to hear about other bloggers, like Lys, receiving boxes of fresh, organic produce being delivered right to their homes.  I wondered why they never seem to have cool stuff like that around my town.  Well, I didn't have to wonder for long because a quick google-search turned up a solution – Absolute Organics.  It turns out that this time, we really do have cool stuff like AO around town.  After browsing their web site to check out the details of the concept, I sent a quick email to the company to ask about delivery dates & timing.  Almost immediately, I received a response from Vonda who was very helpful in answering my questions.

Today, I bit the bullet and decided to give their organic produce delivery a try.  The online sign-up process was super-simple and quick.  I especially liked how AO let you specify which fruits & veggies you do not like so you don't get foods you don't eat in your delivery.  Pretty cool, huh?  During the delivery sign-up, you get a screen (see graphic above) with a full list of fruits & veggies they have access to (seasonally, of course) and you select only the produce you do not want to receive.  When I browsed the list of produce, I noticed that there were lots of fruits & veggies on there that I rarely eat, but none that I wouldn't want to receive in my delivery.  This realization begged the question…Why don't I eat these fruits & veggies?  The answer is that they are either not my faves or I'm not familiar with them.  I decided to only select one item from the list that I didn't want – Portabellos.  I actually don't really like mushrooms at all, but they do enhance the flavor or some dishes, so I left 2 of the mushroom types.  Why avoid Portabellos?  They scare me for some reason…who knows?

What I do know is that I'm looking forward to receiving my first shipment and I'm hoping to get some of those unfamiliar fruits & veggies.  I've really been wanting to branch out of my comfort zone with foods, so I think this will be a great way for me to do so.  This will also be a great way for me to keep up with my New Year's Resolutions!

I'm supposed to get an email in a day or so with a list of fruits & veggies I'm going to get and I'm so excited to find out what to expect in my delivery.  Yay!

Btw, if you decide to sign up for Absolute Organics, tell them Diana sent you. 🙂

  1. I'm so glad you are trying the service. I know that the shipment service I use, Orlando Organics, is awesome. The more I read about organic foods, the more I wonder why the heck I didn't make the switch sooner.
