Hawaiian-ish

Still enjoying the sun here in Orlando! You know I used to live here, right? I spent several years of my childhood here, which is why I sometimes refer to myself as a “theme park baby.” That’s what happens when you grow up visiting Disney, SeaWorld and Universal Studios. 😉

Post work, we headed out and about.IMG_3709 (640x427)

First up – a pear martini with pear puree! Yum!

Then, we headed out to one of my all-time favorite restaurants – Roy’s! Roy’s is a Hawaiian-fusion restaurant with really yummy food.

I started with the Elderberry martini. Very light and refreshing!

A couple of us tried the Prix Fixe Menu.

I chose to start with the kombucha squash salad, which was a lovely choice with blue cheese, tender squash, pepitas and fresh cilantro.

One of my co-workers got the macadamia crusted mahi mahi, which I may have ordered had I not had mahi-mahi the night before.

I got the Hawaiian shortribs with mashed potatoes and lots of veg – carrots and broccolini (love that stuff)!

And then it was dessert time. Check out my co-worker’s pumpkin cheesecake! I had a tiny bite and can say it’s quite yummy.

I went for the molten chocolate dessert. Whoa was that delicious or what!

And we even hit up downtown Disney to catch a really great duo at the Irish pub….

…plus dancing! That girl was really talented! Her feet were moving like CRAZY!

Did you ever taking dancing in your life? I spent a brief period of time trying ballet, but it didn’t stick. Of course, now, I dance all the time! What about you?

  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY !! 😀

this all looks SO yummy… would you believe I have NEVER had a molten cake? *sigh*.

I cannot believe I didn’t take dance when I was younger… my mom was a ballet dancer until well past college, and my aunt STILL teaches – she has a private studio at her house…

I *STILL* want to take tap dancing… maybe someday… 🙂

  2. I’ve had a couple elderflower martinis and they are so good. My favorite is made at the James in Chicago!

I was forced to take ballet for years because I was a competitive gymnast. I think the reason why I didn’t like ballet was because I was being forced to do it. I don’t like it when people tell me I have to do something!

  3. I took dance from kindergarten through middle school–tap, jaz, & ballet. I took ballet again in college and have attempted a few classes here and there over the past few years. I miss dance class…it was so fun, but now it’s not in the budget and few studios offer adult classes in the evening. Perhaps in another lifetime 😉

  4. Word on the street is that it’s your bday…Happy Birthday! 🙂

I have a musical theatre background so I’ve done plenty of dancing in my day. Although when we’re out, my boyfriend thinks I have lame dance moves. He clearly doesn’t understand that musical theatre dance moves are COOL!

  5. Happy Happy B’day Ms. Diana!

Not visiting Roys is one of my Orlando regrets. I used to live right by there when I first moved to Orlando. The Barnes & Noble right by there was one of my second homes (besides the Millenia Mall of course). Photos, as always, are fab!!!!

  6. Yep – I took dance my entire life. I was on a competitive dance team in my younger days, then I was on the high school drill team and dance company. I miss it like crazy!!!

    Happy birthday!!!!!!

  7. Dinner looks phenominal! I only took dancing one year when I was 7. The following year I decided on sports–volleyball and softball.

I know September is your birthday month, so if today is your day then HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! 🙂

  8. I LOVEEEE Roy’s. There food is seriously so amazing!

I always dreamed of being a dancer, but was sadly turned off to it when I was young by a ballet instructor who told me I was too fat and dint’ respect dancing. I moved on to musicals and was much happier singing and dancing. 🙂 There were actual parts for big-bootie ladies in musicals and I really liked that!

  9. I love Roy’s restaurant. I’ve been to their locations by Disneyland, San Diego, Las Vegas and Hawaii.

I like fish dishes that have some crunchy crust on it like pecan crust or almond crust, it makes the fish dish taste better.

I used to be a Hula dancer. I preferred dancing to the fast beats of live drums than the slow songs.

  10. I did ballet for a very long time. I tried jazz, but I was much better at ballet. I ended up having to choose between dance and high school sports and dancing lost. So sad!
