Online Bake Sale for Haiti – Bid Here!

***BIDDING IS NOW CLOSED. THANK YOU EVERYONE!***
NOTE: I’ll be posting a separate recap post later this week, so please check back on the blog for more information.
WINNING BIDDERS: I’ll be emailing you over the next couple days. Please email me at thechiclife at gmail dot com if you haven’t heard from me in 48 hours from now (Wed Jan 27th 11pm ET).
BAKERS: I’ll be emailing you guys with your winning bidder’s info as I receive their payment. If you haven’t heard from me about your bidder in 48 hours from now (Wed Jan 27th 11pm ET) please email me.

It’s finally here! The Online Bake Sale is up and ready for bidding! Read on to see how to and to actually bid on some delicious baked goods donated from fabulous bakers across the US and Canada!

Click here to view details from the original bake sale post.

Bidding Details:

  • See something you like in the list of baked goods below? Then make a bid!
  • Bids start at $10.
  • Please be sure your baker ships to your country – some ship to US only, etc.
  • By bidding, you are saying you are interested in making a donation to the Red Cross (by sending your payment to me, which I will send to the Red Cross) in exchange for a baked good donated by one of our fabulous bakers, most of whom are baking your treats from their homes. This is like a traditional bake sale, but instead of picking out baked goodies at your work or church, you’re picking them out online and the bakers are shipping you your treats.
  • Bidding will go on almost all day Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 – check the auctions for end times. The end times vary (sorry! I couldn’t get them to end at the same time). All auctions will be closed at 10pm, if they don’t end sooner (yes, this is earlier than originally stated, sorry, but I need time to compile the winning info so you get your treats as soon as possible).
  • All money raised from the bake sale will be donated to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development Fund.
  • Serious bidders only, please.

How to Bid/Buy

Bidding now over. Thank you everyone for participating in the bake sale. Look for a new post with a recap to be posted in the next couple days. Thanks again! 🙂

  • Locate the treat(s) you want to bid on.
  • Click on the respective “Click to Bid” link to bid.
  • Fill out your bid info – it works very similarly to ebay (you may want to enter your max bid).
  • If you experience any issues with the bid page, please email me at thechiclife at gmail dot com.
  • You may want to monitor the treat(s) you bid on to see if you’ve been outbid, in case you’d like to place an additional bid.
  • You will be notified via email if you’re the winning bidder.
  • Payment will be via Payal (if you absolutely cannot do Paypal, I can try to work something out for you with a check written out to the American Red Cross.) I will not be able to provide receipts for your donation, but I promise all the money raised (minus some potential fees, though hopefully Paypal doesn’t take fees) will go to the Red Cross.

If You Are the Highest Bidder

  • If you’re the highest bidder at the end of the auction, you’ve won the treat you bid on. Congrats!
  • Within 24 hours, please send me a payment in the amount of the final bid to bake4haiti at gmail dot com (you should receive an email with these details, too). Please include your shipping address when you make your Paypal payment. If you can’t submit your address information via Paypal, please send it to me via email at thechiclife at gmail dot com.
  • Once I receive your payment, I will let the baker know they can get started baking your treats. They may not bake your treats immediately – if you have specific timing questions, please email me at thechiclife at gmail dot com and I’ll get you and your baker in touch so you can discuss.
  • Your baker will ship your treats directly to you.
  • I’ve asked the bakers to ship your treats as quickly as possible, but please be sure to take a look at your treats upon receipt as these baked goods are perishable. Eat at your own risk. If you have questions about expirations, etc. I get you in touch with your baker to discuss.

Bakers Signed up:

Special thanks to all our bakers who have so generously donated their ingredients, baking skills, and time! Without them, this bake sale wouldn’t be possible.

Also, Stonyfield is giving goodie bags to the bakers whose goodies get the top 5 highest bids! Help your favorite baker win by getting their bids up and spreading the word. Thanks Stonyfield!

We Can Do It!

I may not be able to go to Haiti to help, and I may not have a zillion dollars to help, but I can do something. I have to believe that everything little bit helps. I believe that our community of bloggers and readers can help together.

Please consider bidding on something from this online bake sale. You’ll be helping a good cause AND getting a yummy treat, too! I truly believe every effort goes to the greater good and that we can make a difference.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
~Margaret Mead

  2. Well my bids are going through, but even though I put in a higher amount, it only goes up fifty cents. Like, an item was $15 and I wrote in $20 but when I hit submit it only went to $15.50. Is that happening to anyone else?

  3. Hey Guys!

Thanks everyone for bidding! We still have a couple items (Melissa, Melanie, Joy) that need bids – check em out!

For the bidding: Your bid starts out at the lowest point. Example. Bid is currently $10. You bid $20. Current bid is now $10.50. If someone tries to outbid you at $15, your/current bid goes to $15.50. It only increments if someone tries to outbid you. Make sense?

  4. What time zone is the closing time in? I’m in central time and didn’t want to miss the end of certain auctions. (Katy’s banana bread says it closes at 8:33pm on my computer..) Thanks! 🙂
